And the beat goes on:

So I have changed the scale and method of production for the little guys. I think the smaller size is a little more appropriate and in the last two weeks I've gotten 3 of them near completion. This is very exciting.

Letting Go of What You're Holding On To. . .

I feel like the I am standing still and the Universe is moving around me. Things are coming along, lots of things are getting done, but I don't feel like I've moved. The baby is coming in November, so I'm moving like a crazy man trying to get everything done.

Worth The Wait

Hey Folks,
I know it's been a little while since my last post, but I think you'll agree it's worth the wait. The past week and a half has been really productive! I built a hot wire for cutting foam; I have my first little guy cut out and coated in plaster and I've started work on the big Peartato. My Two assistants Humberto and Jessie have been really helpful. Hopefully we can stay this productive all semester.

After his spa treatment, he got some sun by the pool.
"NOOO, I FORGOT SUNBLOCK!"

I used an old model train transformer to make a hotwire.
It's really cool. . . When it works.

Amendments

Hey folks,
So I've been revising some ideas and illustrations. Opting out of the literal plug/socket I've opted for something slightly more subtle. I've also attempted to alter the Husk illustration to better show my idea as it stands now. I want it to reference both a carcass and a refrigerator. It will have chrome ribs poking out and a light on the inside that is motion activated. I also forgot to put my thought bubble in here a while back. So I guess this entry is more about the evolution of ideas.
Take care.

Almost Done Brainstorming

So, after this idea I think I have enough to last for for a while. The rest is going to be execution. This is how I used to work. I would have a months of brainstorming and then stuff just comes out like an avalanche.

This piece needs a little explanation. The idea is that it would be made of laminated cardboard and the inside would be black fiberglass. There would be small holes drilled in the back and when you look inside it will look like space. . . In theory. It may change as I actually get to the practicality of building it. I have a few other, less developed ideas that I won't post until I understand them. I will try to keep up with posting in-progress pics.

NEW IDEAS!

So things are starting to make sense! I wrote a rather cohesive statement about these little guys that I am quite pleased with. I'm also getting to a point where I will be able to trim some of the fat of the pictures I don't like so much any more. Also have my first committee meeting this week (Fingers crossed).

Never Ending

Hey Folks,
I'm still fighting the good fight. I'm working on making some foam cutting tools right now and I've ordered a mega block of foam. Don't forget to check out my stuff on Etsy at http://www.shgud.etsy.com

Still Lifing

Hey Folks,
I finally made an Etsy account to sell the paintings I've been doing for fun on the side. Check it out. I've also been working hard on designs for my thesis show, let me know what you think.

IN THE BEGINNING. . .

This blog is going to be the center of the goings on of my art career. The intent is to keep my thesis committee updated on my projects and progress and to hold myself responsible for my time allocation. So here is a sneak peak at some paintings I've been working on. Prospective sculptures that are awaiting loan money.
